Sun City resident shares his experience, from start to finish, with Texas Traditions Roofing.
Tony Livermore’s only interaction with a roofing contractor was from years ago when he lived in the Miami, Florida area. It was not a good one. “We had a barrel tile roof and some of the tiles were broken. We had a company that went up to look at the tiles and ended up breaking more tiles,” explained Tony.
From that point on, Tony didn’t have a high level of confidence in roofing contractors. Now living in the Sun City community in Georgetown, Texas for the last five years, Tony’s roof has been subjected to hailstorms.  “We had some people knock on our door to tell us our roof probably needs to be repaired,” he explained. “I let them onto the roof to look for damage, but I just had some ‘buts’ about them.”
The door knockers told Tony they were doing work on his neighbor’s home soon, but it was actually Texas Traditions Roofing who was replacing the roof of his neighbor. “They actually came over to my house to let me know they were working next door and to apologize for any disturbance they may be causing. I was very impressed with that,” stated Tony.
Tony explained he was in need of roof work because of hail damage and asked Michael Pickel to take a look. Michael prepared a bid and Tony decided to choose the Texas Traditions team to perform the work. He was glad that he chose them. “They were absolutely on time, they showed up when they said they would. They were polite, nice people and did a great job cleaning up after. The finished roof looks beautiful,” he shared.
The cleanup was important to Tony because another neighbor who had his home recently re-roofed by a different roofing company, was unfortunate to get a flat tire after driving over a nail in his driveway.

Anytime someone knocks on your door to sell you something it’s best to be cautious and even more so in the case of your roof. While there are many legitimate, licensed, local contractors offering roof repair and replacements following hail storms, there are some that are not to be trusted. Protect yourself by asking the following:

Are they a licensed member of Roofing Contractors Association of Texas (RCAT)?

Texas does not require roofing contractors to be licensed but the RCAT allows contractors to self-regulate by becoming licensed through the association.

Where is their physical address and how long have they been at that location?

If they recently moved into that location, what was their previous address? In the roofing industry, there are contractors known as ‘stormers.’ They follow hail storms around the country, set up shop in a rented office front, work for a few weeks and then take off to chase the next storm. You want to be sure the person you choose to work with is truly local and will be around months later should any issues arise.

What insurance do they carry?

You’ll want to find out if they are insured for umbrella, workers compensation, and general liability. Roofing can be dangerous, and an insured contractor protects you in case there is an accident.

Are they certified to install a manufacturer’s product and offer a warranty?

Shingle manufacturers will recognize contractors as certified to install their system after they meet certain requirements as a business and in experience and training. Remember, your roof is made up of a system of products (underlayment, vents, pipe collars, etc.) that protect your home – it’s not just the shingle that matters.

Will they offer a workmanship warranty or guarantee?

Many roofing system warranties only protect against manufacturer’s defects. If there is a problem due to poor workmanship you could be left hanging.

With the holiday season quickly approaching, we wanted to share a little bit about why we believe it’s so important for us to give back to those in need in our community. Our families have been blessed to be able to run a successful roofing business that continues to grow. We’ve always been happy to be involved in the Community Restore program, donating our time and workmanship to those in need. We think it’s time to do more.

We are now in our fifth year of business and as we celebrate our ‘5th Year of Roofing Excellence,’ we realize we wouldn’t be where we are today without the trust and support of our local community. The folks in the greater Austin and Georgetown, Texas markets have believed in our business and our people, allowing us to install new roofs and repair existing ones.
Family is very important to us and there is no better time of year to build memories of time spent with our families than the holidays. We envision a table filled with turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy and all the fixings of a nice holiday meal. But there are people right in our very own community who struggle every day to put a meal on the table and just don’t have the means to prepare a large Thanksgiving meal for their family.
That’s why this year, to celebrate our fifth year in business and to give back to the community we are adopting 5 families and will deliver all the ingredients they need to make their Thanksgiving a family-filled, special holiday with many memories created.
